We are not bothered by non-members of Safa – Danny Jordaan

The South African Football Association (Safa) president Danny Jordaan has reassured their members that all is well within the organisation and that they are not bothered by outsiders who are troublesome to the association.

Jordaan was responding to incidents from last weekend at the Safa ordinary congress at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg. This is where supporters of Ria Ledwaba stormed into the venue and picketed outside. Security yanked them off the premises.

“In any situation, it is members who elect their leaders. All of the members who elected leaders were in the house with us.

Accredited members not among protesters

“Anybody who was outside was clearly not accredited, or they were not delegates. I don’t even know them or why they came here. We continued our meeting with our members,” added Jordaan.

Jordaan further expressed happiness over the national association’s finances.

“We had unqualified audited statements. The auditors were here, and the financial report was accepted by Congress.

“For 32 years, Safa has delivered unqualified audited statements every year. We have not skipped one year where we did not deliver unqualified statement. This is our record on finances,” he explained further.

Jordaan also spoke about the fortunes of Banyana and Bafana. “Banyana Banyana became African champions for the first time in the history of the national team.

“We wanted to qualify for the Olympics in Paris. It is a setback, and it happens in football. We must continue to participate in these competitions.

Focusing on  Afcon victory

“Our next step is the Afcon and to go and defend our title. We tried against Nigeria, and we came very close. In football, sometimes you score and sometimes you don’t; there’s nothing we can do about it.

“Bafana Bafana collected a bronze medal at the Afcon. Our members were happy with the achievements of our two senior teams,” he added.
