Mamelodi Sundowns’ hard working defender Mosa Lebusa says that after they analysed matches of their CAF Champions League opponents Pyramids FC, they have realised that the Egyptians did not arrive in the final because of a fluke.
The PSL champions, who have won the league title eight times in a row, will face a Pyramid side in the first leg of the Champions League final at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday. The game will get underway at 3pm. The second leg will be played in Cairo, next Sunday on June 1.
Gave Bucs a hard time
Pyramids stunned Mzansi when they gave favourites Orlando Pirates a torrid time, both home and away, to come out victorious 3-2 on aggregate. Bucs survived a major scare in Orlando after Pyramids’ two goals were ruled out by VAR. Then the hard-working Egyptians came back twice from behind in Cairo to book a place in the final.
“We watched their games, it’s by no fluke they got where they are now. The technical team and the players have been analysing them to see where and how we can capitalise. We need to make sure we put our team in an advantage going forward to the return match,” said Lebusa on Wednesday.
“It will ease the pressure on us if we seal it at home. But CAF competitions are very different to other matches. Come Saturday and with our 12th man, our supporters, we will stand a very good chance.”
Striker Fiston Mayele
About Fiston Mayele, the lethal striker from the DR Congo who tormented Pirates, Lebusa said that the plan is to not focus on one player but on the entire team.
“We all saw that Mayele is a very good player. But we are not too worried about him alone. Because we do not focus on one player, we focus on the entire team as a whole. As defenders we will try to keep him as far away as possible from the box. And also to make sure that we minimise their chances. That’s because they are very deadly when they are inside the box. And that’s one thing we are working on and hopefully we can succeed.
Any winning result is good
“In the first leg, any result, as long as we do not concede, will be good. If we get goals, it will be a bonus, especially when we are playing away. All the players are important in the team.
“If I don’t play, I support those who are playing, so, I must always be ready when my time to play comes. I am always prepared. It has been like this since I joined Downs. One moment you are not playing and the next moment you are thrown in the deep. You always have to be ready at such a big club,” Lebusa explained further.
