Sekhukhune United coach Lehlohonolo Seema says that they may have lost the match against Mamelodi Sundowns, but they dominated the log-leaders when it comes to statistics.
Sundowns defeated the Limpopo outfit 2-1 in a match that was played at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday night. Seema insisted that his players must not be ashamed of their defeat. He said because they did not lose lose to Sundowns’ B-team. They must be proud of their performance against a team that has all the best players in the country, he added.
We dominated the game
“Our players gave it a good fight. We did not sit back and park the bus. We took the match and frustrated them as the match went on. Their coach [Rulani Mokwena] had to come up with delaying tactics and made a lot of substitutions. That is how good we played. According to statistics, we dominated the game.
“It’s just that we had a bad start and conceded two goals. People say we played against Sundowns’ B-team, and I say no. Those players are in their starting lineup, and we fought hard. But it was not meant to be, and we want to forget about that match and focus on the next fixture,” Seema told Sunday World.
Focus on doing better next time
“We are not too focused on finishing third and getting a Caf competition position. Our focus is to finish better than last season. We were seventh last campaign, and we want to finish higher. If we can solidify our place in the Top 8 bracket [we will be happy],” Seema added.
The Brazilians benefited from two early goals by Thapelo Morena and Tashreeq Matthews. While Chibuike Ohizu got on the scoring sheet for the visitors. Sekhukhune’s next fixture is against TS Galaxy next week.
Sundowns’ left back Terrence Mashego, who came in as a substitute, almost made it three for his side. It was his excellent turn to evade the Babina Noko defence. That saw him drive the ball as the defence offered him space. His chance got challenged in the last minute to deny him a goal.
