We must pause our cup celebrations – Edmilson Dove

Kaizer Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove has emphasised the importance of putting their Nedbank Cup celebrations aside ahead of their crucial Betway Premiership clashes.

Amakhosi are on a mission to finish inside the top eight and standing in their way are Sekhukhune and Polokwane City.

The Glamour Boys recently ended their decade-long trophy drought after beating arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final.

However, Amakhosi are now forced to cut their celebrations short and focus on the task at hand, which is to complete their hot and cold season on a positive note.

“We know the importance of Saturday’s game, and we have put the celebrations aside,” Dove told the club’s media department ahead of the Sekhukhune game.

“We’ve shifted focus back to the league. The training sessions have been good, the mood is positive, and we know what’s required. The coach has been preparing us well, and we are ready to fight.

“There are no easy games in this league. What matters now is focusing on ourselves and correcting what we haven’t done well,” he added.

“It’s been a difficult season, but our main goal now is to make sure we finish in the top eight. We’ll do everything we can to make that happen.”

Dove was echoing the words of Amakhosi coach Nasreddine Nabi, who urged his side to put the Nedbank Cup celebrations on ice and focus on their last two must-win games.

“We must remain humble. Yes, there will be a lot of joy and celebrations, but at some point, those celebrations need to end for us to be able to concentrate on the task ahead,” Nabi said shortly after being crowned the Nedbank Cup champions.

“So, we can’t say we have redeemed ourselves because the season is not done yet, and we must fight with every ounce in our last two games against tough opponents to finish inside the top eight, because that is another objective of the club.”

Chiefs will conclude their Betway Premiership season against Polokwane City at the FNB Stadium next Saturday.
