Wounded Chiefs gear up for agonizingly dominant Sundowns

Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs will have a big task at hand when they face high-flying Mamelodi Sundowns in a DStv league encounter at the FNB Stadium on Saturday evening. Kick-off time is at 8pm.

Amakhosi have been on a poor run of form, losing back-back matches to Sekhukhune United and AmaZulu, respectively, realistically dropping out of the league title race with Masandawana 19-points ahead of them.

It is believed that the departure of Njabulo Blom to the Major Soccer League has been a big blow on coach Arthur Zwane’s plans for the season.

Twenty-three-year-old Blom signed for a Bradley Carnell-led side St Louis City SC in December following months of contractual negotiations for a more lucrative deal with the Glamour Boys.

He has since been replaced by young prospect Samkelo Zwane, who graduated from the Chiefs DStv Diski Challenge side, but has unfortunately been unable to hit the ground running and fill in the gap left open by Blom.

Amakhosi take on a Sundowns side that has been unstoppable and agonizingly dominant this season. They have recorded 11th successive victories in the league and a nine-game winning streak at home.

The Brazilians come back from a 1-0 Tshwane derby triumph, and will lock horns with a wounded Chiefs side following an embarrassing 4-0 thumping to Usuthu on Friday.

Zwane was, however, seemingly not fazed by the defeat, saying that “the performance wasn’t bad” and noting that he wants to forget about the loss.
