After mesmerising a brimming Twickenham Stadium with a historic victory over the All Blacks, the Springboks will be fired up ahead of their Rugby World Cup title defence, and the hard work starts now.
South Africa produced a commanding performance against 14-man New Zealand in London, when they walloped them 35-7 – inflicting the heaviest defeat in the All Blacks’ illustrious rugby history.
The Boks could not have asked for a perfect conclusion to their World Cup preparations, as they fine-tuned their performance against one of the most feared sides in world rugby.
Skipper Siya Kolisi, who scored the Boks’ first try, is looking better and stronger than ever. A healthy and injury-free Kolisi will be a massive boost to a Boks side that is on a serious mission to achieve the special feat of winning back-to-back Rugby World Cups.
“It was amazing to see the number of South Africans lining the streets on the way to the stadium,” Kolisi said after the match.
“That’s why we couldn’t hold back in the match, we had to give it our all, and we did that as a team.”
The Boks have undoubtedly sent a stern warning to the rest of the world that they mean business in France with one mission in mind, which is to retain the prestigious Webb Ellis trophy.
The global showpiece will kick off on September 8, when host nation France go toe-to-toe against New Zealand.
The Springboks will take to the field two days after, when they battle it out against Scotland on September 10 in Marseille.
