TNL 2024 tipped to unearth future Spar Proteas stars

The stage is on the mark, set and ready to go as the much anticipated 2024 Telkom Netball League (TNL) gears up for its grand launch at the Ellis Park Arena in Johannesburg later this month.

With the inaugural power week set to start from April 26 to May 5, it will be followed by a series of thrilling matches running through between May and June as the TNL promises a spectacle of athleticism, sportsmanship and talent.

Since its inception in 2014, the TNL has served as the cornerstone of South African netball, consistently churning out exceptional players who not only
dominate the national scene but also leave an indelible mark on the international stage.

Sponsored by Telkom since 2019, the league has emerged as the premier semi-professional netball competition in the country, fostering an environment where aspiring athletes can showcase their skills and catch the eye of talent scouts, with the ultimate dream of proudly wearing the green and gold of the Spar Proteas.

In a bid to make history once again, this year’s tournament welcomes a new addition to its roster with Tshukudu from North West, bringing the total number of competing teams to 16 representing all nine provinces of South Africa.

Among the 16 teams will be the Gauteng Jaguars, who are the reigning champions after clinching the tournament last season. The Jaguars will have a daunting task of defending their title as they will be going up against fierce competition,
including the resilient Free State Crinums.

Netball South Africa president Cecilia Molokwane, expressed her excitement and optimism about the constant growth of the tournament.

“The expansion of the Telkom Netball League signifies a milestone in our journey to elevate the sport of netball in South Africa,” said Molokwane.

“With the inclusion of Tshukudu, we are not only expanding the reach of the league but also providing more opportunities for aspiring athletes to compete at the highest level.

“This is a testament to the growing popularity and competitiveness of netball in our country, and we are excited to witness the talent and passion on display in the 2024 season.”
