English Premiership log-leaders Tottenham Hotspur coach Ange Postecoglou admits it will be a case of late fitness tests for two of their left-sided full-backs ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Chelsea.
Speaking to SPURSPLAY over the weekend, Postecoglou was asked about the fitness of Destiny Udogie, who missed Friday night’s win at Crystal Palace and he explained that the defender’s situation had been improving this week, but whether he will be available for selection against the Blues will be decided closer to the match.
Ben Davies replaced Destiny in the line-up for the 2-1 win at Selhurst Park, but there has been frustrating news for the Welshman as he picked up a knock in south London, which in turn made him a doubt for the third London derby on the spin.
“We’ll see how Destiny progresses,” Ange said. “Obviously he’s still got a few days before the Monday game. He’s progressing through it but we’ll assess him closer to it.
“Everyone else is okay. Ben Davies has got a bit of a knock so he hasn’t trained with the team yet so [he’s] unlikely for Monday but, again, we’ve still got a couple of days to go.”
For Chelsea, Trevor Chalobah, Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana, Christopher Nkunku, Mykhailo Murdyk and Romeo Lavia are continuing to undergo their rehabilitation programme.
Spurs have punched above their weight and been on the up and up. Under the new coach, the Londoners were tipped to be one of the strugglers after the unprecedented departure of their talisman and all-time goal scorer Harry Kane – who joined German giants Bayern Munich.
Across town, their rivals Chelsea were the big money spenders during the off-season transfers but have somewhat not been firing since the start of the season.
Despite manager Mauricio Pochettino having a star-studded squad at his disposal, he has not been able to find the right combinations.
