Contrary to reports throughout the week and utterances by TS Galaxy boss Tim Sukazi, Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Bongani Zungu has allegedly apologised to Bernard Parker for his crunching tackle that broke the striker’s shin.
Sunday World has learnt that Zungu sent a text message to Parker upon the club’s return to the team’s hotel in the early hours of Thursday.
An insider revealed that Zungu felt it was a private matter and he did not want to go public about such a delicate matter.
“The team even arranged for a bouquet of flowers to be sent to the injured Parker. Tim was probably not aware that Zungu had reached out. Parker even responded to Zungu’s message on Thursday. He has shown remorse since he became aware of the magnitude of the injury,” said our informer.
In 2018, Joseph “Tight” Molangoane, who was playing for Kaizer Chiefs, suffered a similar injury after a hard, cynical challenge from Makhehleni Makhaula, who was in the books of Free State Stars.
Molangoane said Parker is very strong: “I saw him, he got up immediately and was clapping to the fans. After I saw my leg, I was crying and was in too much pain. I do not remember much except for waking up in hospital. It shows how tough Parker is, I admire him for that,” Molangoane said.
“My advice to him is to first accept the whole ordeal. He must stay at home, rest and follow all the doctors’ orders – he will be okay, I know from experience. He is my former teammate at Chiefs and he also supported me during my healing period. He is a professional and a disciplined guy and I know he will play football again.”
Parker, who underwent a successful surgery has been discharged, and shared this message to those who wished him well: “Hi guys, the surgery was a success. Thank you so much for the love and support, especially from my family, I love you guys.
“Mr Tim Sukazi and the TS Galaxy family, the coaches, the management, thank you for the support. My captain, well done for the Man of the Match award and getting us into the next round as a team. Everyone who sent messages, especially the other soccer clubs, thank you so much, and our supporters, thank you so much for the well wishes and all the love you have been showing. I appreciate you. See you guys soon on the field, God bless, one love.”
