Fifty Two more COVID-19 patients have lost their lives to the deadly disease, hiking the death toll from 15 447 to 15 499, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize said on Monday September 14.
“We extend our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and also thank the health care workers that treated the deceased patients,” he said.
Mkhize also said that of the new fatalities, two were recorded in KwaZulu-Natal, three in Gauteng, four in the Eastern Cape, seven in the Western Cape, 15 in the Northern Cape and 21 from the Free State .He also said the COVID-19 infection number now stands at 650 749 after 956 people tested positive for the coronavirus induced disease in the past 24 hour cycle. The 956 infections were recorded from 10 136 new tests conducted, spiking the total number of tests conducted to 3 928 614.
Mkhize also said of the 650 749 patients, 579 289 have recovered from the disease, which translates to a recovery rate of 88.9 percent.
