King Monada is being sought by organisers of an event after he failed to pay back R25 000 which is part of the amount paid to him for a show in Phalaborwa, Limpopo.
According to the organisers of the Phalaborwa Spring Carnival, the music star born Khutso Steven Kgatle, failed to make contact or arrangement to pay back the money throughout this week.
Event organiser Thabiso Mkhombo of Lefa Promotions told Sunday World that they have given the Aye Kuwa hitmaker the rest of the week to gather himself and pay them back before they take any legal action against him.
He said Monada owed them after not pitching for the show he was booked for.
“He has not paid us back and has not said anything since we last spoke. He did not show up at the event,” Mkhombo said.
He added that King Monada was paid R40 000 in total only paid back half of the booking fee, which is R20 000.
“We have been busy with arrangements for the events and now we are all just tired, but we will give him this week as we are also resting, and then we will take up the matter with him again after this,” Mkhombo said.
King Monada cancelled his performance at the festival in the last hour a week ago, by telling his fans that he will not be coming because they (organisers) did not pay him his booking fee.
In a plot twist, Lefa Promotions responded with proof of payment receipts disputing the muso’s allegations, which showed that he was paid his dues.
Mkhombo said at the time that they had a communication breakdown with the muso after he asked them for more money.
He added that Monada was paid a total of R45 000. He said he paid him R20 000 at first for a song and then made another payment of R25 000 towards his performance booking, which was R50 000 for the night.
He said the muso failed to give the song they had paid for. They then assumed the money they paid for the song was going to cover for the performance booking. However, King Monada disregarded this and requested his full performance booking fee.
In a released statement, the promoter accused Monada of taking advantage of them.
“We have tried by all means to sustain our relationship with King Monada, but it seems like our Limpopo artist is continually taking advantage of our kindness by his poor relationship management conducts,” the statement read.
Monada’s manager Albert Makwela was not immediately available for comment.
