Seven more people die of COVID-19

Seven more COVID-19 patients have succumbed to the deadly disease, ballooning the death toll to 65.

The  COVID-19 infection rate figure has also spiked by 170, increasing the total number of infections from 3465 to 3635.


 This was announced by Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize on Wednesday night.

Mkhize said of the seven deaths, five were recorded in the Western Cape and two in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

 He also said  133 774 people have been tested for the highly contagious coronavirus so far, with 6868 done on Wednesday alone.

He said the tests were conducted in both the public and private sectors, with mass community screenings taking place in all the nine provinces.

 Mkhize further said Gauteng is still the epicentre of the highly infectious disease with 1224 confirmed cases,  Western Cape 1079, Kwa-Zulu Natal 758, Eastern Cape 377, Free State 106, Limpopo 27, North West 24, Mpumalanga 23 and Northern Cape 16.

 He said only one positive case remained unallocated.
