Abdul Khoza quits acting to pursue new chapter behind the scenes

Award-winning actor Abdul Khoza has officially announced that he is stepping away from acting. He is closing a celebrated chapter in his career and opening the door to new creative pursuits.

Known for his dynamic roles in hit shows such as The Wife, Isibaya, and My Brother’s Keeper, Khoza has become a household name in South African television over the past decade.

At the peak of his career

Khoza made his mark in the local entertainment industry with his intense, emotionally charged performances. His portrayal of the fiery Nqoba Zulu in The Wife was particularly memorable. It earned him accolades including the DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Favourite Actor Award and a Golden Horn for Best Supporting Actor at the 2022 SAFTAs.

Despite his on-screen popularity, Khoza has chosen to walk away from the spotlight at what many consider the peak of his career.

In a series of public statements and interviews, Khoza expressed a desire to shift his focus from acting. He plans to focus on other areas within the entertainment world. The veteran actor plans to dedicate his time to writing, producing, and developing original content.

According to the actor, this transition is a deeply personal one. It is motivated by his passion for storytelling. And his ambition is to contribute more meaningfully to the industry by working behind the scenes.

Last audition

“So, I decided to share one of my last auditions that I did this year before I decided to simply quit acting. This is a way for me to show those who still wish to pursue a career in acting that we all go through the audition processes. For an actor to get a role, they are required to audition, and this is my last self-tape.

“Thank you to everyone who ever supported my journey as an actor. I am honoured to have been able to share my talents with you. And I would have never known my own talent without [your acknowledgement],” he wrote.

Khoza’s commitment to building a strong sense of camaraderie and professionalism among his peers has made a lasting impression.

Not quitting, but evolving

This marks the end of his acting journey for now. However, Khoza has reassured fans that he is not leaving the entertainment industry entirely. Rather, he is evolving.

With several creative projects already in development, he aims to uplift new talent. He aims to craft stories that reflect South African experiences in fresh and authentic ways.
