Award-winning rapper Da L.E.S pours cold water over rape claims

South African rapper Leslie Jonathan Mampe Jr, fondly known as Da L.E.S, has rubbished rape accusations leveled against him.

This after a woman called Carlene Brown de Jongh shared on social media that the artist raped her in Stellenbosch, Cape Town.

On July 4, the woman posted on Instagram and alleged that Mampe and his friends ganged up on her and raped her.

Through his attorneys, the Trust hitmaker has since issued a statement saying Brown de Jongh falsely and unlawfully accused him.

He revealed that he has already opened a criminal case of defamation which is being investigated by the police.

“Carlene Brown de Jongh falsely and unlawfully accused Leslie Jonathan Mampe Jr, aka Da L.E.S and others, in a widely published post on Instagram, of inter alia ‘rape’,” reads the statement.

“Da L.E.S does not wish to deal with each and every allegation as it is prima facie untrue.”

It further said the allegations made by Brown de Jongh have no foundation and are defamatory, hurtful, and wrongful.

“These were intended to humiliate Da L.E.S and undermine his good reputation. Da L.E.S is a celebrated public figure whose income is derived from his musical artistry and public influence.

“The aforementioned statements were intentionally disseminated by Carlene Brown de Jongh and were clearly calculated to slander, humiliate, defame and tarnish Da L.E.S’ good name and reputation.”

He denied the allegations and described them as spurious and unfounded, saying he will seek legal advice to prove his innocence.
