Actress Deli Malinga, who plays the villain role of Thenjiwe MaMzobe Gumede on Umkhokha, has given Nkanyiso Mchunu his flowers as he exits the show.
Malinga plays Mchunu’s conniving mother whose character, Mlungisi, committed suicide last week, the third time that the Mzobe family has been rocked by suicide.
First, it was Thenjiwe’s father followed by her daughter and now her only son.
Taking to social media, Deli Malinga said she still remembers their conversation when Mchunu arrived on the set of Umkhokha for his first scenes.
“I recall you saying Mah, I know you playing my mom on screen for the second time, but I know it’s gonna be for a short while. Asivule umgodi [let’s do our thing unapologetically], something that will make them remember us even when we’re gone,” she wrote.
Malinga said she loved Mchunu’s acting and that he was one of the best that South Africa has seen.
She added that she enjoyed their scenes and had so much fun watching them on TV.
“I salute you @nkanyisomchunu_ you make acting look so easy, you are a natural. Thank you for being a wonderful on-screen and off-screen son.”
Malinga further appreciated her on-screen family for the emotional episode on Friday last week when Mlungisi died.
“My team, my squad you made me proud as usual on Friday’s episode of Umkhokha, I ended up crying on my couch guys.
“Your acting on Friday was on another level and thank you so much. You always dig deep and allow God to do the rest of yours.
“May God keep expanding your territory and touch people’s lives through your skills in acting,” she wrote.
