With the filming of the upcoming drama series Queen Modjadji under way, Mzansi Magic has given a sneak peek at some of the cast members that are part of the historical series.
Queen Modjadji is the story of the Rain Queen brought to life. The series is said to have a mix of experienced, well-known talent, and some new faces.
This will help open employment opportunities in the film and television industry for young and upcoming creatives.
The series will be told in the Khelobedu language, and the cast was selected on the basis that they closely portray the historic figures that form a significant part of the story.
Meet leading cast members
Ngelekanyo Ramulodi will play the role of the young Queen Modjadji. She has been part of productions such as Isiphiwo and Fatal Seduction.
Masutang Rasekele, new to the industry, will play Dzugudini, the daughter of the Rain King and the mother of Queen Modjadji.
Dzugudini is a crucial figure in Lobedu history, as she was instrumental in saving the kingdom from drought.
Helen Lebepe, who is no stranger to the small screen, will play the role of Raisibe. In the drama series, Raisibe helps Modjadji get a glimpse into the real world of her people and grows to become her confidant.
Thabo Bopape, who plays the Supreme Mambo/King of the Kharanga Kingdom, is obsessed with becoming the greatest rainmaker.
The series starts in July

Former Miss SA Shudu Musida will make her acting debut. She plays Muthanoni Mulalo, one of the king’s wives from the Vhavenda royal family.
Ndavi Nokeri, who was crowned Miss SA 2022, will portray the role of Muthanoni Khensani, another one of the king’s wives from the Vatsonga royal family.
The series is set to premiere in July, and more cast members will be revealed at a later stage, including the legendary Queen Modjadji.
