Skeem Saam actress Harriet Manamela, who took a short break from the weekday drama on SABC 1, will return to the small screens in August.
Manamela, who plays the character of Meikie Maputla, revealed in May that she has recovered after undergoing hip surgery at the beginning of the year.
The soapie revealed that Manamela would be absent from the show for a while due to ill health. It added that Florence Masebe would start appearing on the show on May 15.
Florence Masebe stepped in to replace her
The channel on Friday honoured Masebe for standing in for Manamela. It lauded her for playing the character of Meikie with elegance and grace during her absence.
In Season 12 of the show, viewers saw Pitsi landing up in a hospital. This compelled Thabo Maputla to make a swift return to Turfloop.
Pretty’s prince quickly turned into a frog. And after things took a dark turn, Lehasa came to the rescue, guns blazing. Kwaito and Lizzy found their way back to each other and walked down the aisle to wedded bliss.
Babeile and Sthoko found love in each other. Unfortunately, toxicity tore them apart. Ntswaki fell for a young man and he liked her too. But both their lives are now turned upside-down when the concept of “consent” became distorted.
Melita successfully bulldozed Eunice out of Mr Kgomo’s life. Luc was killed and Kganyago was finally brought to justice.
More drama in store
In July, Season 13 of Skeem Saam will bring in more drama. This as theatre and television actor Samson Khumalo makes an appearance. He will be playing the character of Boikanyo (Bra Boikie) Ramasemola.
Bra Boike is a flamboyant 50-something-year-old who is not afraid to speak his mind. He is a municipal employee who is willing to assist Kwaito and Tbose get a big paying tender. Corruption rears its ugly head when the brothers realise that they need to do something for Bra Boikie in return.
In addition to Season 13, viewers will see Paxton and Letetswe’s world collide with Tbose and Kwaito’s. This occurs when a science project goes terribly wrong.
Lehasa Maphosa finds himself on trial for the deaths of traffickers Tsietsi and Pule. Melita’s true colours come to light and we become aware of her dark past.
