House music pioneer Oskido headlines House Naxiion’s four-decade tribute

When people write the history of South African house music, few names are as prominent as kwaito legend Oskido.

Now the legendary producer, DJ and record label boss is ready to take the lead at the premiere of House Naxiion—a bold new day-to-night festival celebrating 40 years of house music—on August 8, at The Campus in Bryanston, Johannesburg.

For four decades, Oskido, real name Oscar Sibonginkosi Mdlongwa, has been more than a participant in the genre’s journey. The 58-year-old has been a primary architect.

From his early days as a driving force behind the iconic Kalawa Jazmee Records to producing timeless anthems like Via Orlando and helping launch the careers of music groups such as Boom Shaka, Bongo Maffin, Mafikizolo, Alaska, Black Motion, Brothers of Peace (which he was a part of), and legendary artist Thebe, Oskido’s fingerprints are on nearly every chapter of South African house music.

His signature blend of kwaito, deep house, and Afro-tech has defined dance floors from Soweto to the world.

Headlining house music tribute

Now, he will bring that legacy to House Naxiion’s debut edition, sharing the stage with fellow heavyweights Glen Lewis, T-Deep, and Lamiez Holworthy—a lineup that, according to organisers, symbolises the perfect bridge between the genre’s golden-era pioneers and its current wave of new-school energy.

“House music didn’t just arrive in South Africa—it was built here by people like Oskido, who understood that this sound was our story,” said event organiser Aubrey Magabane, who co-created House Naxiion with Rudzani Ndadza.

“Having him on our first lineup is a statement. This event is about honouring the journey, and Oskido is that journey.”

The festival promises an immersive, premium experience that transitions from sun-drenched afternoon grooves to sunset sessions and euphoric late-night sets.

A standout feature of the evening will be a Legends Tribute Set, a segment specifically designed to honour the icons of the genre.

While Oskido will undoubtedly feature prominently, the tribute will also cast a wider light on the pioneers who helped shape the culture.

“Four decades is a milestone,” Magabane added. “We wanted to create an experience worthy of that history, from perfectly engineered sound to premium food and drinks, all set against a beautiful outdoor backdrop.

“This is a celebration of legacy, connection, and the sound that has shaped who we are.”
