‘Idols SA’ gents battle it out for place in competition’s top 10

The Idols SA gents gave electrifying performances on Saturday evening that could see them bag a spot in the top 10.

Their performance came just after the ladies also battled it out last week.

The second live show of Idols SA season 19 saw men in the top 12 throw their hats in the ring for a place in the top 10.

Just like their female counterparts last week, the guys collaborated with former Idols SA winners and finalists for stunning duets.

Five men and five women will make up the top 10 which will be announced next week, chosen entirely through viewers’ votes.

Thando teamed up with season 11 winner Karabo to sing his track Khakhati. His solo showing was Kaylow’s Noma.

JR Bogopa and Somizi Mhlongo commented that it was a “good way to start the show”.

Faith’s duet was with season 14 winner Yanga and they sang Hillsong’s So Will I. His solo song was Bhudaza’s Tjontjobina, earning praise from all the judges.

Thembi Seete said: “Take me to church right now! You could sing on the other side of the room, and I’ll know it’s you. You have your own unique voice.”

Nkosi teamed up with season nine winner Musa for his track Wozala, before going it alone on Nathi’s Imimoya.

“I can’t fault this performance, both songs were clinically executed,” commented JR after their performance.

Envic collaborated with season 13 winner Paxton on her track Battleground. He went solo on James Brown’s A Man’s World, earning a standing ovation from the audience and the competition judges.

Thembi remarked after their performance: “I’m going to have a heart attack! I love how comfortable you are about everything. You are at home, and it shows.”

Sipho sang with season 15’s Lloyiso on his hit Seasons. His solo song was Don’t Judge Me by Chris Brown.

The judges advised Sipho to embrace his “uniqueness”, with JR being impressed by both performances.

Thabo collaborated with season 11’s Mmatema on her track My Time Is Now. For his solo track, he took on Stevie Wonder’s Signed, Sealed, Delivered, which had the judges and audience on their feet.

Somizi summed it up: “Signed, sealed, delivered. It’s yours. You deserve a ‘whoo-shem’.”

The winner of Idols SA season 19 will walk away with a record deal from JR’s Feel Good Music, a brand-new Toyota Vitz courtesy of Toyota, fashion vouchers, and their entire Idols SA wardrobe courtesy of Truworths.

One lucky viewer will also win a Toyota Vitz.
