The vibrant legacy of Eyadini Lounge, a beloved entertainment hub in KwaZulu-Natal, is set to continue under a new name and management.
Recently, a media statement announced the rebranding to The Union Lounge, marking a significant chapter in the venue’s history.
This change comes as the eatery honours the memory of its late founder, who left behind a rich heritage of music, food, and community connection.
The late owner, Jabulani Thamsanqa Zama, was a pivotal figure in the local entertainment scene, known for his passion and dedication.
Eyadini Lounge had closed its doors when Zama suffered a stroke. His untimely death in 2023 left a void, but his vision for a space that unites people through memories, fun, music, and cuisine endures.
Zama owned and managed the entertainment lounge that he established in 2008 and is famous for hosting socialites, politicians, and celebrities from around the country.
Under his leadership, Eyadini became a cultural and tourist landmark, renowned for its lively atmosphere and diverse offerings.
Reflecting on his impact, a close associate said: “He had an incredible ability to bring people together, and that spirit will always live in this place.”
Honouring Eyadini owner’s legacy
His son, Aphiwe Zama, also known as DJ Choppas, is now stepping up to carry forward his father’s legacy. He is leading the rebranding effort, transforming Eyadini Lounge into The Union Lounge.
The new management aims to uphold the traditions that made the original venue a success while introducing fresh energy.
The Union Lounge is committed to delivering great food, beverages, and entertainment, including shisanyama and hot-cooked meals every day.
DJ Choppas shared his vision: “We’re honouring my father’s legacy by evolving it into something new and exciting for everyone.”
The rebranding reflects a desire to connect all people into one dance, preserving the inclusive spirit of the original establishment.
With DJ Choppas at the helm, The Union Lounge promises to build on the foundation laid by its late founder.
A regular patron expressed hope for the future, saying: “This place has always been special, and I’m excited to see how The Union Lounge will keep that alive.”
The venue will continue to be a hub for creating memorable experiences, ensuring that the legacy of Eyadini Lounge lives on in its new incarnation as The Union Lounge.
