Actress and newsreader Relebogile Mabotja is the only radio presenter that has been reshuffled out of the SABC’s popular radio station Metro FM.
This comes after Metrofm revealed its new radio line-up this afternoon.
Mabotja joined the station in April 2019 on The Fresh Breakfast Show and then moved to afternoon drive show The Kings Suite with Siphesihle “Sphectacula” Ngwenya and Lebogang “DJ Naves” Naves.
She will be replaced by Newsroom Afrika’s news reporter Lindi Sirame who is described by the station as having “a wealth of knowledge and sassiness to the show.”
On Instagram Mabotja said: “Yes, it was a difficult decision to leave Metro FM, a station that I’ve now come to call home. For today’s show we celebrate the great moments and the amazing platform and opportunity I was given.”
A source however said she did not leave – but was let go by the station and today is her final show.
Among the minor changes to the station, former Live presenter Luthando ‘Lootlove’ Shosha will be moving up the racks to join the weekend breakfast show, ‘THE WKNDR’ with Mpho MoG Madise, leaving DJ Speedsta to host the two hour long show, ‘Absolute Hip-Hop’ by himself.
“We are ecstatic to welcome the new editions to the METRO FM Family. They each bring their individuality and unique skills to the brand. This move is in line with our commitment of growing and grooming radio talent as we consciously prepare METRO FM’s next generation of broadcasters,” said Metro FM station manager, Sibongile Mtyali.
SABC acting spokesperson Mmoni Seapolelo confirmed that “based on the 2019 successes, that saw the station delivering its highest audience figures in four (4) years, the station plans to maintain the current line-up with a few minor additions.”
The station further introduced two developmental slots aimed at setting up new and young talent for the future at MetroFM.
These are new weekend programmes from 02:00 -04:00 (The Lift) and 04:00 – 06:00 (Club with Mat Elle), hosted by former YOTv media personality Rorisang Thandekiso and former Tuks FM presenter Nthabeleng Matela respectively.
