Idols Season 15 contestant Snenhlanhla “Seziey” Msomi’s voice has the power to convert even the nonreligious. The 25-year-old hopeful from
Umlazi in Durban made an unforgettable mark on the competition when she received the loudest applause during her Ewe Getsemane performance.
With gospel being her strong point, she sings her heart out every week as a dedication to her gogo. “My grandmother introduced me to Christ at a very young age. I grew up in a church and I’m proud to say I’m a child of God who is not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ,” she said.
Msomi said she always knew she could sing because she was often the Sunday school lead singer, but was given hope by her high school teacher who forced her to join the school choir. “I grew up in a family where my grandmother was struggling and from Grade 10 I started taking responsibilities at home. Then I knew that music would bring food to the table.”

A week after her Ewe Getsemane performance, while performing Heal My Soul in the fight to secure votes to secure her place in the top 9, which will be revealed today, she maintained the same energy and received yet another standing ovation. Although she cannot perform gospel music every week, Msomi said she would pursue gospel music once the competition was over.
“If it happens that I win Idols the first thing in my mind is to save a certain percentage of the money for future purposes and make my grandmother’s home a house she’s always dreamt of,” she said. The bubbly singer will be performing Pakisha by Dlala Mshunqisi at the State Theatre in Pretoria tonight. Hot on her heels is fellow contestant Dinky Swartz who seems to improve each week.
