The Polygamist is also the number three show on the streaming platform globally, according to Stained Glass TV, the production company behind the 22-episode series.
The series centres on the tumultuous life of Jonas Gomora, played by Sdumo Mtshali, and the four women whose lives become intertwined through their relationships with him.
The show, which also stars Gugu Gumede as Joyce Gomora, Celeste Ntuli as Essie Gomora, Kwanele Mthethwa, Luyanda Zwane and Sthandiwe Kgoroge, has sparked debate on social media platforms, with each episode sending audiences into a frenzy over the audacity and magnitude of the main character’s wanton ways.

Lion King producer Lebo M’s Instagram video praises the production, storyline and creative storytelling behind the series.
Although the acclaimed producer and composer thinks the series should bear a different title, he acknowledges that the story reflects reality.
“But the truth is, there are Jonasis out there. Globally. There are men and female Jonasis,” Lebo M said.
Jonasi Gomora’s shenanigans did not escape the attention of Johannesburg’s first citizen, Mayor Dada Morero.
“I just finished watching The Polygamist on Netflix and I have some questions for Jonasi Gomora.
“Four relationships, a billion-rand empire, a calendar that seemed to be on the verge of collapsing, yet he still believed he could get away with it.
“Anyways, let me focus on reclaiming Johannesburg,” Morero wrote in a Facebook post.
The series is based on a book of the same name, penned by Zimbabwe-born author Sukoluhle Sue Nyathi. Nyathi self-published The Polygamist, her debut
novel, 14 years ago.
In her online bio, Nyathi says that she initially wanted to study journalism but ultimately pursued a degree in finance at the National University of Science and Technology in Zimbabwe, which led her to the world of finance and investment.
