Somebody, please educate these lot about red carpet etiquette

Yours in gossip headed out to Mbombela for the 2024 Metro FM Music Awards and the theme this year was “Black to the Future”. Yeah, Shwa and most people just assumed that means people must come in black but those who know better interpreted it their own way.

Metro FM saw it fit to host the awards on one of the most iconic days on the calendar, Freedom Day. This is the second year that the awards have come back after taking a much-needed break and one would have thought they would learn from their hiccups from the previous year, but clearly, they are following right in the footsteps of the SA Music Awards (Samas).

Before the main event, there was a pre-fashion showcase hosted by African Fashion International (AFI). If it were up to Shwa, it was unnecessary because nothing much was happening.

Moi expected to see more but was left rather disappointed after seeing journalists themselves walking on the runway; isn’t that a model’s job?

To the CEO of AFI Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe: why invite the media if you do not want them near you or even speak to them? What was the point of the entire shebang then?

The main event was held at the Mbombela Stadium and was hosted by Tebogo “ProVerb” Thekisho and Luthando “LootLove” Shosha.

For a minute ProVerb thought he was hosting Idols because why would he say, “Dim the lights?”

That ship has sailed, my dear, focus on your main job, I beg.

Whoever was given the job of dressing up LootLove did such a stellar job, all her outfits were on point, showing off her beautiful long legs. What a way for her to make a comeback, her winning the MTV base presenter search set her up for life.

Shwa is really tired of telling organisers to address the red or black carpet issue. It is really annoying having people act like they are at daycare, and some not wanting to take pictures or even speak to the media.

If you don’t want to, don’t bother walking the carpet. We never asked you to be a celebrity, you chose this very public life, thank you.

Shwa’s not sure whether Phupho Gumede was walking the carpet, hosting or styling Bontle Modiselle, who wore a brown and blue royal-inspired outfit. It reminded Shwa of Egypt, just wondering how she got to the awards in a car or whether she wore it as she got to the venue.

After previously getting criticism for her style, Zanele Potelwa was styled really well in a black gown but disappointed Shwa when she wore that space-inspired outfit. But I guess that’s the future.

Moshe Ndiki, Somizi Mhlongo and -Vusi Nova all wore the same outfit. I don’t know what that was about, perhaps it’s a uniform or something. Moshe, please do watch how awards are presented before pulling a blunder like you did by announcing the winner before the nominees.

Oskido and Boom Shaka were all awarded lifetime achievement awards and it was beautiful to witness that as they are still alive.

We must admit though that the amapiano genre has really taken over because Kabza De Smal and Mthunzi Ndimande scooped the most awards for their hit song Imithandazo.

People should stop assuming fans will automatically vote for them because the songs are popular on TikTok, learn to campaign and ask for votes.

Aymos, who won best male artist decided not to fully walk the carpet but Shwa is happy for him for the win.

Oscar Mbo won best styled artist and Shwa hopes that he will stop allegedly wearing fake labels; all eyes are on you now, buti. However, sometimes being stylish does not mean you should wear designer labels.

Shwa also spotted Lwah Ndlunkulu, Big Zulu, Cedric Fourie, Lamiez Holworthy, The Legacy, Bongeziwe Mabandla and Sykes.
