I didn’t beat up my wife, bruises are from old car crash – gospel muso Xolisa Kwinana

Xolisa Kwinana, a Crown Gospel award winner, is dealing with accusations of gender-based violence (GBV) against his wife and public scrutiny.

This follows his wife Kwakhanya’s recent posts on her TikTok social media account featuring images of her battered and bruised face.

She also posted on Facebook that she had come to several realisations in her life following the birth of her second child.

“I need to stand firm for myself. It has been pain after pain and betrayal after betrayal,” she posted.

“I prayed one day to get courage and strength to speak about it and warn others, but because of the failing system of law and some unsupportive family members who will choose to stand with the culprit, one avoids coming forward.

“Justice keeps failing us. Culprits walk freely while the victim suffers in silence.”

Kwinana, the Uyasondla singer, has since issued a statement dismissing the allegations.

“I am saddened by the statements and allegations released, supposedly, against me by my wife, which I intend to follow up on and get to know better about when I return to South Africa,” said Kwinana.

Musician refutes GBV allegations

Kwinana attested that Fifi Gubevu Elihle, who has a Facebook page, is his spouse.

“It was alleged that I abused and/or abused her physically and that I failed to support her. I admit, like any other couple, we, from time to time, would have differences which I believed that we sorted between ourselves.”

However, he refuted the GBV allegations.

“I deny the allegations of GBV as alleged and in support of my denial. I met my wife for the first time ever during August 2020. I did not know her before.

“We got married in June 2021, and the trending pictures were posted by my wife during November 2023 on her TikTok handle named ‘Mrs Kay Kwininana’.

“The pictures are from an incident that happened five years before she posted the pictures, so the pictures depict an incident that happened five years before 2023 and that should be between 2018 and 2019 when she sustained those injuries.”

Family knows about the pictures

He said his understanding of the pictures was that his wife was involved in a car accident.

“I know those pictures reflect injuries she incurred when she was involved in a car accident [she told me].

“Her family knows about the pictures and the accident. I never assaulted my wife as claimed, and I have never been physical with her in any way or form.”

Kwinana stated that he is in Zimbabwe for work.

“When I return, I intend to sit down with my wife and address any differences. I have now escalated the issue for our families to address and handle.
