Fans of heavyweight gqom ensemble Big Nuz are pleading with the surviving member of the group, Danger, to quit music.
This comes after a clip emerged of Danger, real name Mzi Tshomela, in studio with Afrotainment boss DJ Tira, recording an upcoming single.
In the clip, Danger can be heard singing “just arrived” throughout the session, which set social media abuzz, with critics questioning his relevance in the industry.
One fan wrote: “What is he still doing in the studio? He must just call it a day; this ‘just arrived’ song is not make sure [sic].”
Another fan agreed: “All the creative members of Big Nuz have passed on; Danger is proving that he was and still is the useless one in the group.”
Danger, R. Mashesha (Sbu Khomo), who passed away in 2015, and Mampintsha (Mandla Maphumulo), who passed away in 2022 following a stroke, were the founding members of the well-known Durban band Big Nuz.
Another follower lamented: “This guy must just accept it; he’s out of the game. This clip is proof that Mampintsha is no longer around.”
Reviving the Big Nuz brand
Sunday World spoke to a source close to Danger, who revealed that the singer is hard at work trying to revive what is left of Big Nuz.
“As Big Nuz broke up, Danger couldn’t crack it as a solo artist. He recorded one single but otherwise featured on other artists’ songs,” said the source.
“I think he should just focus on himself rather than riding on the Big Nuz brand, which confuses music fans, as they know other members have passed on.
“Danger must just try and do features because that’s where he’s good at, but as for him doing a song like Big Nuz, that means he’ll need DJ Tira [to be featured], which still defeats the purpose.
“What’s evident is that whatever he records, he’ll need Tira’s hand.”
Since the passing of Mampintsha, Danger has been booked under the group’s name and last went into the studio while Mampintsha was still alive.
Danger stated that the song in question was not a finished product when Sunday World contacted him for a comment.
“It’s not a final project; I’m still busy,” he said.
