Jub Jub, accused of rape, is back on the set of ‘Uyajola 99’

Uyajola 99 host Molemo “Jub-Jub” Maarohanye is back on set amid a case of rape and attempted murder filed against him in July.

Sunday World understands that Maarohanye was back on set this week as the channel wraps up filming for the next season of the trending show. This was just days after the presenter made an appearance at the Johannesburg magistrate’s court on July 27 following his arrest at the Brixton police station.

A source close to the channel confirmed that he was back on set.
“He is back at work. I know management had meetings with him but what is more important is clearly the show and he has been shooting this week like nothing happened,” the source said.

Maarohanye is facing five criminal charges: three counts of rape, two of attempted murder and one of assault. Speaking to Sunday World on Saturday, Maarohanye’s lawyer Ntsako Baloyi confirmed that the star is back at work, stating that he is also in high spirits.

“He is focused, which is good…. When you know that you are innocent, you will always be in good spirits,” Baloyi said. He added that his client maintains his innocence. He sais the matter was complex and is not just about him, but involves many other role players,

“The management believes in him and they believe that there are conspiracy theories at play. So with their support and trust, he is really doing okay because they believe in him,” he said. “We were also shocked when this came up because we thought that it was resolved,” Baloyi said.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) revealed that the star is facing three rape charges, which one of them was opened by his ex-girlfriend and a famous media personality which date back to 2006 and 2009 when they were in a relationship.

NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said the case by the media personality was laid with the police in Brixton in February 2022. She added that the media personality decided to open the case after the rapper went on a popular podcast and said degrading things about her.

“After seeing her speaking out about her ordeal on social media, more women decided that it was time to come forward and tell their stories about the humiliation and abuse they suffered at the hands of the accuse,” she said.

The muso handed himself over, appeared in court and was released on R10 000 bail, following an unopposed bail hearing. He will be back in court on 24 August 2023.

Moja Love spokesperson Nonzwakazi Cekete was not immediately available to comment, however, in a previous media statement Cekete said the channel will allow the law to take its course.
