Jub Jub out on R10 000 bail for alleged rape, attempted murder

TV presenter and hip hop star Jub Jub is out on R10 000 bail after he appeared in the Johannesburg magistrate’s court on Thursday for alleged rape, attempted murder and assault.

Jub-Jub, born Molemo Maarohanye, had a criminal case opened against him by a popular actress and media personality in February 2022.

The presenter handed himself over to the police in Brixton early on Thursday after a warrant for his arrest was issued.

Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo confirmed earlier in the day that the case was scheduled for Thursday in the magistrate’s court.

“Police can confirm that a well-known rapper handed himself over to the police in Brixton on Thursday, 27 July 2023, after a warrant of arrest was issued against him,” Masondo said.

“He is expected to appear before the Johannesburg magistrate’s court today facing charges of rape, attempted murder and assault.”

It is not clear how and when Maarohanye, known for his popular Moja Love show Uyajola 99, committed the offences.

Police sources close to the investigation said: “The matter has been under investigation and after the docket was taken to the NPA [National Prosecuting Authority] for a decision, a decision was taken that the suspect needed to be arrested,” said a police officer who refused to be identified because he is not authorised to speak to the media.

“After getting a tip-off that he was wanted by the police, he decided to hand himself in. After police were satisfied that there was a strong case against the suspect, the NPA took a decision to prosecute.”
