Media personality Criselda Kananda opens up about recent surgery

Motivational speaker, counsellor, ex-nurse, media personality, presenter, and medical underwriter Criselda Kananda has captivated hearts with a touching note of gratitude following her recent minor surgery.

On Wednesday she shared the news publicly as she celebrated the success of the procedure, crediting Dr Breckon and the Heartfelt Medical Aid team at Sizwehosmed.

She also shared that her expertise ensured a swift recovery, sparing her prolonged hospital stays and an unnecessary financial burden, a relief she expressed with deep appreciation.

Criselda’s surgery addressed a ligament tear tied to hormonal fluctuations, a topic she addressed with honesty.

She emphasised the need for women to stay attuned to their bodies as they age, famously stating: “Don’t suffer in silence; your health is your wealth.”

Her experience highlighted how estrogen, a hormone that varies through the menstrual cycle, can influence ligament stiffness.

While it boosts muscle strength and collagen in connective tissues, it may also reduce stiffness, increasing vulnerability to injuries from sudden movements or unexpected incidents.

Profound life lesson

Reflecting on this, she added: “This reduction in stiffness can make ligaments more vulnerable to injury, particularly during activities that involve twisting or sudden movements.”

Beyond the medical narrative, Criselda’s story offers a profound life lesson.

Once a steadfast caregiver, she now navigates a role reversal, requiring assistance with daily tasks.

This shift, she embraces with humility, thanking supporters for their prayers and messages.

“This minor surgery comes with a big lesson for me,” she wrote, underscoring the importance of both giving and receiving help.

Reflecting on her maternal journey, she playfully suggested: “I think I should get a bell” for her daughters, symbolising a light-hearted nod to the care she once provided them during their youth.
