Mzansi A-lister Khanyi Mbau dumps her boxing match

With less than two weeks to go, Mzansi A-lister and television actress Khanyi Mbau has dumped her highly anticipated boxing match against entertainer Zodwa Wabantu.

The much-publicised celebrity ring action was scheduled to take place at The Ridge Casino in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga.

It is alleged that Mbau had made demands which the organisers found too difficult to deal with.

A source close to the situation says, it was all systems go until Mbau’s shock withdrawal from the exhibition match.

“The organising team had done everything by the book, sent her contract which she signed and funds deposited into her account. She was happy and ready to participate in the fight, now the organisers feel it is unprofessional of her to pull out with weeks to the fight date.”

Another source said: “We strongly feel Khanyi Mbau chickened out; perhaps she is too concerned with her manicured fingers because how are those fingers going to fit into the boxing gloves? So, apparently the elegant lady made unrealistic demands for the organisers to find an excuse to avoid the boxing match.”

The show, however, goes on after the organiser, Arnold Nododile, managed to find a replacement for Mbau.

Sunday World has learnt that Khanyi Mbau’s replacement is an actress from an SABC 1 soapie, but Nododile would not reveal the name of the celebrity apart from confirming Mbau’s withdrawal.

“Khanyi will no longer be part of the fight, please note we’ve found a potential replacement to fight with Zodwa Wabantu. We are just waiting for the actress to return back the contract today (Wednesday), so we can make the posters to promote the fight”.

When asked about the Mbau’s reasons for dumping them, he said: “We couldn’t synchronise her schedule, so she refunded us yesterday”.

Efforts to contact Khanyi Mbau drew a blank.
