TV producer, entrepreneur and award-winning DJ PH started his career in deejaying in 2009 while he was fresh out of school.
Speaking to Sunday World this week, DJ PH, born Phind’Gcobe Madubela, believes he started on the right foot, which is passion, and not because of vibes.
“The passion has progressed into a business which is challenging but sometimes profitable,” he said.
“The one thing that I have spoken, asked and worked towards is consistency.”
DJ PH said consistent work is sometimes deemed not so exciting, but notes that it requires a lot because one needs to continuously improve on their previous work.
Party experience
His brainchild (PH)ola is a premium daytime party experience hosted in a luxurious venue. He shared that the initiative started back in 2017 when he hosted a birthday party.
“As a person, I love peace. For many years I had celebrated my birthday at clubs. I then asked myself how I could do it differently, so I invited a few of my friends to my house.
“As the years passed, it got bigger and not even Covid-19 could stop us. In 2020, we implemented the no-phones policy, which surprisingly worked,” he said.
Over the following year, he decided to commercialise his brain child and opened it to the public.
“Between then and where we are today, it has grown from 1 000 people to the biggest one we host in Cape Town that takes up top 4 000 people.
“On average we cap it at 1 500 people, so we don’t compromise service. It is an inclusive space and we try to treat everyone like a VIP.”
On Thursday, he launched (PH)ola Marituis, which will take place in March 2024.
“When we travelled, I checked out multiple locations and when we teamed up with the travel agency, Maritius made a lot of sense.
“It was also about expansion, I don’t like doing the same thing. I like trial and error, progression and growth.”
He added that he is not someone who likes being in one place, saying he needs to do better than before all the time regardless of whether it is work, business, or personal life.
