Scammers demand R8K to release Rorisang Mohapi’s account

Gqeberha the Empire star, Rorisang Mohapi, has become a victim of scammers.

Her TikTok account of more than 350 000 followers and approximately five million likes has been hacked.

“I’m hurt because it took me five years to build this account and it was still growing. I used it to promote my brand, entertain people and interact with my fans. Now it’s gone and hackers are demanding a lump-sum in order to release it,” said Rorisang.

Her TikTok account was allegedly stolen three weeks ago.

Duped by fake administrators

“I received an email from the scammers. They pretended to be from Tick-tock. They said they’ve been reviewing my account and based on the huge following and interactions, I needed to be verified. This made sense to me because I’m already verified on Instagram, so I agreed to their request,” recalled Rorisang.

She said she was convinced and thought she was talking to authentic Tick-tock administrators.

“I guess I was an easy target because they were only stating facts. My page was growing and it was approaching half a million followers so it truly needed to be verified,” said Rorisang.

Then the scammers allegedly asked for her login details.

“I gave them my login details, including my username and password. As soon as I gave them these details, I was locked out. I couldn’t access my account. I realised I’d been dealing with scammers and as a result, I’d been hacked. There was nothing I could do,” she said.

Hackers demand ransom

But the hackers were not done with her. She said they continued to harass her, demanding money so they could release the account.

“They sent me a WhatsApp message and confirmed that they took my account. They demanded R8 000 in order to release the account. I refused to pay and they never returned my account,” she said.

She wants her account back but she said she is not prepared to pay.

“I don’t know who’s behind this and I don’t know his or her intention in taking my account. I still want my Tick tock account but I’ll not pay the scammers,” said Rorisang.

“I also haven’t opened a case because I feel it’d be pointless,” she said.

Rorisang plays Lulama, an evil and manipulative daughter.
