Former SABC1 presenter Vusi Twala and his wife Lianne are heading for divorce hardly five years after they exchanged wedding vows.
Sunday World can exclusively reveal that the couple, who tied the knot out of community of property in Johannesburg in April 2017, has drifted apart and is contemplating a divorce.
Twala, who changed his surname to Zion, has since vacated the couple’s matrimonial home in Weltevreden Park in Roodepoort, and now stays in Blairgowrie, Randburg.
News of Twala and Lianne’s separation was revealed by a relative, who did not want to be named for fear of ruining his relationship with the estranged couple.
The relative said Twala, who has been with Lianne for at least five years, got married to her out of community of property and out of community of profit and loss with the inclusion of accrual system, as the estranged lovebirds are both self-sufficient and wanted to accumulate assets to build their empire individually and separately from each other.
The relative said he was shocked when Twala moved out of their matrimonial pad in September 2020 to go and live in an affluent suburb, leaving his wife and children behind.
“When we enquired, we learnt that he and Lianne had some differences and, as a result, he decided to move out to give her some space,” said the relative.
“We thought this was just a lovers’ tiff and they would both resolve their differences and get back together, but we were wrong.”
The relative said to his shock and chagrin, Twala received calls and letters from Lianne’s lawyers informing him that she was planning to file for divorce because she felt their marriage had broken down beyond repair.
“She complained that Vusi had not returned to their marital home since he vacated in September 2020 after an argument.
“She also complained that he and Vusi did not get along and have been always arguing over several things.”
According to the relative, Lianne had mentioned that she would not attempt to rekindle the spark and fix the couple’s faltering union, because she no longer has feelings for the former TV presenter-turned producer.
Twala feigned surprise when we asked him about the separation.
“Who is my wife? What is this in relation with, sir?” he asked before hanging up.
Attempts to solicit a comment from Leanne drew a blank as her phone was off.
