Unisa to join the International Women’s Day celebrations

The University of South Africa (Unisa) Women’s Forum in collaboration with the South African Women in Dialogue (SAWID) and UNWomen, will hold the International Women’s Day Seminar under the theme Exploring DigitAll: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality to commemorate International Women’s Day at Unisa Main Campus on Wednesday.

International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated annually as a focal point in the women’s rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, violence and abuse against women.

The theme is in line with some of the key issues which affect women globally, e.g., access to technology, education in technology and technological advancement, abuse of technology and the protection of women and girls in digital spaces

Media Officer Tommy Huma said this theme is also aligned with the priority theme for the upcoming UNWomen’s 67th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW-67), “Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls”.

Dr Elinor Sisuul,  Executive Director of PUKU Foundation. will deliver the keynote address.

“She is expected to share some light on how she has begun to change the lives of numerous children with her PUKU range of digital books – giving a boost to education and opening new horizons of learning for our children, who need to be enriched as future citizens of this country,” added Huma.
