The EFF accuses the ANC of having diverted from its purpose as a liberation movement.
The red berets raised concerns over the six ministerial and six deputy ministerial roles granted to the DA in the newly announced cabinet.
The DA had initially demanded 12 ministerial positions from the ANC during the negotiations to form a government of national unity (GNU).
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the long-awaited cabinet on Sunday evening.
Leigh-Ann Mathys, the spokesperson for the EFF, said the ANC was now in the oppressors’ camp, opening a gap for the EFF to fill in as the new liberation movement.
Agenda from the Oppenheimers
“These positions indicate that racists are poised to implement regressive and neo-liberal policies that will entrench market fundamentalism and profit maximisation by the corporate and financial sectors at the expense of the poor black majority,” said Mathys.
The portfolios that the DA runs include agriculture, basic education, public works and infrastructure, home affairs, communications and digital technologies, forestry, fisheries and the environment.
The party also holds deputy minister positions in finance, higher education, energy and electricity, small business development, water and sanitation, as well as trade, industry and competition departments.
In her capacity as Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Annelie Lotriet also represents the DA.
“The rest of the so-called GNU members have been rendered glorified spectators, who legitimise the pact the ANC has entered into with racists and their mandated political agenda, which comes from the Oppenheimers and the Ruperts,” Mathys said.
Effective opposition
She also emphasised that the world should now perceive South Africa as a nation incapable of enacting significant change, adding that it is still a better idea that the EFF chose not to join the GNU.
“We will remain an effective opposition, whose sole responsibility will be to undermine the backward policy advancements of the ANC-DA-granted coalition at all levels of government and on the picket lines.
“Our collective responsibility as revolutionaries remains to fight for economic freedom in our lifetime and to report to the masses of our people that the former liberation movement has betrayed its historical mission and morphed into a weapon of racism.”
