Physically disabled Bongani Elvis Madonsela, 30, grew up without a father. But his mother and late grandmother rose to the occasion and guided him through life. In 2010, Madonsela went astray and mixed with the wrong crowd, allowing his disability to affect his progress in life and resulting in him failing his matric. It took the death of his mother for him to wake up from his slumber, and in 2019 he completed his matric. Born in 1991, today Madonsela is the chairperson of the Maluti a Phofung Disability Forum, Paballong Primary School, Circuit 14 school governing body and is also a ward committee member. He is also the chairman of Poverty Must Fall and Education Must Rise Youth Organisation, a non-profit organisation that helps the youth who struggle with disability, drug abuse and unemployment, among others. “The minerals, farms, the land and wealth of this country belong to a handful few. We, as youth, must unite and fight for economic freedom,” says Madonsela.
