Diketso Setho from Ivory Park, Ekurhuleni, is a geek to watch out for. The 25-year-old is founder of Ghetto Heroes (GH) Tech Innovations and GH Mall. The idea of starting these two entities was born out of a desire to empower youth with the Fourth Industrial Revolution skills. Coding is one such essential skill. “Simply put, coding means feeding our commands to the computer so the computer can perform tasks. It’s a vital skill in a high-tech society, a skill that can prepare youngsters for the future,” says Setho. Setho displayed a knack for technology from an early age, helping his uncle fix phones. By the time he was a teenager, his fame in repairing phones and other kinds of appliances had spread far and wide. Along the way, he taught himself computer programming and then started teaching coding skills at various schools on a voluntary basis until he launched Ghetto Heroes Tech Innovation in 2017. Through the organisation, Setho and his team partner, with other local entities and local schools, spread the passion for coding among youngsters. GH Mall, on the other hand, is an online outlet that gives township businesses an opportunity to sell their products and services online.
