Deejaying, installations, music composition, multimedia, paintings, poetry, sculpture and writing are just some of Giggs Kgonamotse Kgole’s artistic mediums. The 25-year-old artist born in Kutupu Village in the Limpopo Province is now making waves in Europe. Destined for greatness, Kgole – at a tender age of 21 – became known as the youngest gallery owner in South Africa with his GasLamp Gallery in Johannesburg. In 2017, he received a Prestigious Presidential Scholarship that landed him in Rome, Italy where he had his first solo showcase in Europe titled "Before the High Walls". He is completing his degree in art history with double minors in communication, studio art and design at the John Cabot University. A few years after the solo showcase in Europe, Kgole spent six months in France in a residency organised by Undiscovered Canvas. Last year he was part of the two Miami Art Fairs. This took place just after he curated a group exhibition Mehlolo organised by Expat South Africa on his turf at the Polokwane Art Museum. For this ground-breaker, success started at school. A former recipient of the Student Sponsorship Programme and having attended the prestigious St John’s College, Kgole became not only the first person to attend a private high school in his family; but also the first to pass matric. Kgole was also named under the Mail & Guardian’s Top 200 young South Africans.
