Nominee's Province:
Gauteng
Age:
32
Project Name/Description:
The former journalist worked for SABC’s external service and Channel Africa for 8 years before joining public service as an assistant director for communications at the Helen Joseph Hospital. Shortly after joining Helen Joseph Hospital in 2019, Kgomotso Mophulane was part of the Rahima Moosa Mother-and-Child and Helen Joseph Hospitals project task team, where she was then recognised by the then Gauteng Department of Health’s HOD, Prof Mkhululi Lukhele, for her input. In her current position as communications and strategic information manager for NGO Sonke Gender Justice, Mophulane heads a team of communicators who advocate for gender-transformative and youth-inclusive decision-making by leaders in the Southern African Development Community. The 32-year-old also facilitates capacity-building initiatives through media training for women and youth-led organisations across the region. She further contributes towards projects that engage men to change social and gender norms that reinforce patriarchy and inequality. She lives by Luke 1:37 which says: ‘’For there is nothing that God cannot do’’. Being an Unsung Hero is an honour for the journalist. It will also encourage her to strive to do more and aim for even greater heights.
