Siyabonga Xulu naturally loves to interact with people, sharing knowledge about history and events. So, being in the tourism industry was a no brainer for him. Xulu is the owner of Ing Travel and Tours based in Durban. “We started off with no vehicle but now we have five vehicles. We employ six full time staff members, meaning our business looks after five families,” says Xulu. Xulu was the first runner-up in the Durban Tourism Business Awards 2022 and is also listed as the one of the best customer service businesses in tourism. According to him, his business provides transport to clients traveling for leisure, adventure and corporate business. “The inspiration for the business comes from the importance of exploring things that are out of the ordinary and well known by sharing our own to others who don’t know about us. The exchange of experiences can be culture, adventure or historical events,” says Xulu. He adds that tourism is about learning new things about where you are and traveling. Xulu says the Department of Tourism has assisted his business with a three-year programme to participate in some of their programmes for small enterprises. They have also been able to attend the Tourism Indaba and Meetings Africa through the department.
