His passion for youth development in the less fortunate areas of the Western Cape is what drives community activist Wonke Mapeyi. As the founder of his registered NPO, Elevator Ground, the focus is on providing young girls in Cape Town with sanitary pads, as some of them tend to skip school during their menstrual periods due to their inability to afford pads. And because the job is never done, Mapeyi is also a Bar-One: One Starter Ambassador, a campaign that recognises individuals who have brought positive change in their respective communities. Among his successes, Mapeyi counts the pivotal role he played in the success of a Youth Day event, where youth from various areas of Cape Town engaged on matters ffecting their daily lives. His NPO intends to reach out to the remote areas of the province and other provinces in the future as most of the children do not get the services they are entitled to.
