Project Name/Description:
Co-Founder & Executive Chairman – Molapo Foundation
Lebohang David Molapo is a social entrepreneur, philanthropist as well as the executive chairman of the Molapo Foundation. Through the Molapo Foundation, he aims to establish multiple social initiatives that focus on equitable education, youth, women's empowerment and humanitarian aid. The foundation works with child-headed homes, old age homes and disability centres. It also hosts career guidance roadshows in townships and rural areas around the country to give pupils access to opportunities and information. In addition to Unsung Heroes, Molapo has been honoured as one of the Mail & Guardian's 200 Young South Africans and was also a recipient of the 100 South African Shining Stars Award. Moreover, he was a finalist at the Gordon Institute of Business Science Festival of Ideas. He is also active in various organisations, including the Brics youth association. Molapo believes South Africa has made impressive progress in expanding educational opportunities and redressing the injustices of apartheid. To him, this includes the improvement of access to education at every level. “The number of adults attaining secondary education has increased by 35%, and enrolment in tertiary education has more than doubled. Nevertheless, we still struggle with the low number of graduates at our higher institutions compared to the students who enrol at the beginning of the year.”
