Project Name/Description:
Gundo Ramovha is a 29-year-old agripreneur whose work is quietly transforming lives in KwaZulu-Natal through sustainable farming and community-focused enterprise. Originally from Limpopo, Gundo’s entrepreneurial spirit was evident from a young age, selling food to support himself and nurturing an early passion for agriculture. Determined to build something bigger, he relocated to KwaZulu-Natal with a vision of creating a farm that could both feed communities and generate opportunities. His journey gained momentum through the Roots Agripreneurship Programme – a collaboration between Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator, SA Youth and the Umgibe Institute – which equipped him with technical knowledge, business skills and access to a network of fellow agripreneurs. This support proved pivotal, ultimately enabling him to secure land and establish his own farming operation. Today, Gundo runs a growing agricultural business where he cultivates a variety of crops and produces herbal-infused oils. His commitment to organic farming and environmentally sustainable practices ensures that the food and products he supplies are both high quality and responsibly produced. More importantly, his work contributes directly to local food security – providing fresh, accessible produce within communities that often rely on distant or inconsistent supply chains. His farm supports local livelihoods through seasonal and ongoing work, while also offering practical exposure to young people interested in agriculture. By sharing knowledge and demonstrating what is possible, he is helping shift perceptions of farming – from a subsistence activity to a viable, scalable business path. Gundo’s work reflects a broader vision: using agriculture as a tool for economic inclusion and resilience. Through his efforts, he is not only growing food, but also planting the seeds of opportunity, inspiring others to see farming as a pathway to dignity, income and long-term sustainability.
