Sbongile Mzuzwana has quite literally taken the reigns of her family’s agriculture business and is helping it reach new heights. The 28-year-old who describes herself as an Agribusiness Leader, initially studied Investment Management and Banking but after the pandemic she pivoted and returned to the family business in the Free State. Thobituki Enterprise was established in 2016 and produces quality cattle, sheep, goats, and horses. With her youthful enthusiasm Sbongile is future proofing the business and has introduced new breeds into their production lines. “I have introduced Charolais cattle, to enhance the farm’s livestock diversity. The Charolais breed is not very common in South Africa, but it offers excellent adaptability and high-quality meat,” she says. “I am passionate about developing resilient agricultural enterprises, promoting food security, empowering young black farmers, and creating meaningful opportunities within rural communities,” she says. Sbongile has more than just practical knowledge, she has also upskilled herself in a range of courses like Farm Financial Management, Business Entrepreneurship and Marketing to keep herself up to speed on latest developments. “My vision is to build a modern, diversified agricultural enterprise that creates generational wealth, contributes to economic transformation, and demonstrates the value of combining entrepreneurship with agriculture.”
