After working in the public service for seventeen years, Makgotho took a leap of faith when she ventured into the business world. She chose the tourism and transport sectors. She resigned from her position in the government in July 2022.
That has proven to be a decision she is not regretting today. She has since proven that she is not in these sectors just to tick boxes and generate an invoice but to deliver quality service that has raised the standards when it comes to tourism and transport services across Limpopo.
Makgotho has been described by those who know her well as a “brave, intelligent, hard-working woman. She resigned from her government job and decided to start her own business. She is succeeding – operating local and international tours. She is the owner, driver and tour guide, multi-talented, loves people and has good communication skills.”
Soon after leaving her public sector role at the SA Social Security Agency, Makgotho hit the ground running and the consequent awards she won proved her mettle. Awards such as Limpopo Women in Tourism: Best Social Media Follower, as a second runner and the Best Tourism Winner at the Star Awards, hosted by the Polokwane Tourism Association were in the bag, in quick succession. This was in 2023. Makgotho continues to make an impact, hence her recognition and invitation to play a greater role in Limpopo’s tourism, such as being selected to be a part of the profiling of Limpopo’s black women-owned tourism products.
