A trained lawyer but one with her heart firmly attached to her community, particularly seeing the success of young people.
Lediga has been in community development for more than a decade, where, through her non-profit organisation (NPO), she has shown nothing but dedication and commitment to seeing projects succeed – while spending her own money and time, and using her various networks.
Lediga’s NPO runs various projects across the capital city’s sprawling townships, focusing on projects such as the provision of access to laptops and online reading programs to learners in grades 1 – 3 in the form of a moving computer lab with 42 laptops, headphones and mouses.
The schools are visited by her team almost three to four times a week, enabling learners to be fully involved with the online program.
Her other project is focused on women, which includes a leadership programme for girls in rural areas and townships and assisting young girls who dropped out of high school, for various reasons such as falling pregnant – helping them to get back some form of learning, with a clear goal of assisting them to obtain a matric certificate.
All of this is done while Lediga manages her legal consulting company, a textile manufacturing business and authoring two children’s books.
Lediga’s initiative has been hailed as solving several problems, such as introducing learners in township schools to English earlier and granting the same pupils access to learn computer and digital skills.
Lediga says: “Good quality education is the bedrock of any thriving society and economy.”
