To say the Music Soul Session concert with Deborah Cox and Musiq Soulchild was a hot mess would be an understatement. It was embarrassing on every level.
Shwa saw the irate Cape Town fans complain, and hoped and prayed the Joburg leg at Sunbet Arena on Saturday would be a tad better.
But Shwa should have known it would not be, because the whole shebang was a disaster from the get go.
From finding out to who was handling the media to the press conference held at OR Tambo on Friday, when the stars touched down in Jozi it was a struggle.
Onto the event day, media receives accreditation past 3am – the audacity. And to put the cherry on top, only one ticket is issued – after requesting for two – it came through – but why wasn’t it standard? I mean.
Shwa has never seen disorganisation on this level.
At the venue, Shwa discovers that the media were to be seated right in the back of the arena. What’s the point of having the media there at all? As if we were just some common fans.
After making peace with all this, like a true South African, Shwa decides regardless to have a good time.
But then… it’s like way after 6pm and still no entertainment on stage.
No Ami Faku and no Vusi Nova. Bathong! And then the hosts, who Shwa couldn’t see from all the way in the back, makes it sound like it’s the audience choice whether they want opening acts or want to jump straight into Deborah’s performance.
Guys, some of us were looking forward to our local acts. And an explanation for their no show would have been great.
Your statement released on Sunday explaining that you had technical issues that caused delays and prevented these artists from coming on stage really doesn’t cut it. It was an embarrassment of the highest degree.
When Deborah and Musiq Soulchild eventually performed – Shwa was even in doubt if it was really them, because the side monitors placed next to the stage, were not working. What a Joke!
At least Deborah and Musiq tried their best to satisfy the booing crowd.
They sang their hearts out and Shwa doesn’t fault them for the bad organisation of this gig.
Please do better, some people pay their hard earned sweat and tears to attend these concerts.
