Shwa watched Julius Malema lead what would most likely be the dawn of a greener age in South African politics. This time, in a bromance with the dagga-smoking King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo, Malema blazed what he believes is the trail to prosperity.

Dalindyebo’s eyes sparkled when the firebrand leader spoke about the repatriation of stash. “Our dagga, our rules,” Malema insisted. His majesty grinned helplessly from ear to ear. Malema declared marijuana one of the country’s most verdant resources. He warned that our ancestors did not toil the land for their descendants to be deprived of its most lucrative leaf.

By this time, the king was ready to light up the dashed joint in his pocket. He stopped just as Malema’s phone rang. It was former deputy president David Mabuza on the line. Malema seemed even more inspired: “We want the dagga that grows on our land back. It’s ours. It’s our own dagga. No one must tell us if it is illegal or not. A lot of money can be made out of dagga alone.” By then, Mabuza had hung up, and Dalindyebo had disappeared to the gents.
