After much speculations on social media, e.tv has confirmed the end of prime-time TV drama series Durban Gen.
The less-than-a-year old weekday drama series hit the screens in October 2021 as a replacement for Rhythm City which ended in July of the same year. The channel announced on Monday that the curtain would fall on Durban Gen in January 2023.
“The decision to decommission the daily drama is part of a business strategy, which includes the ongoing review of the on-air life cycle of all our shows,” said the channel in a statement.
“The production has successfully achieved its part of the obligation throughout the past two years.”
Durban Gen is set in the heart of Newlands East, a township in Durban that is home to the most prominent and recognisable academic public hospital Durban General.
