Fear rises as flu strain hits SA just before elections

South Africans go to the polls on Wednesday in the middle of a flu strain that has raised fears that the Covid-19 could be making a comeback.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) recently revealed that the flu strain currently affecting scores of people is the Respiratory
Syncytial Virus (RSV), which can be confused with Covid-19 or SARS-CoV-2 due to common symptoms.

Yesterday, former president Thabo Mbeki revealed in a video recording he had been hospitalised for a week because of flu. He said this was the reason he had been unable to join the ANC campaign this week and was also unable to attend the party’s Siyanqoba Rally in Johannesburg yesterday.
